Please join us in celebrating Monica Martinez, a cofounder and steering committee member of the Histories of Violence Collective.

Monica will receive the 2015 Constance M. Rourke Prize at the upcoming American Studies Association meeting in Toronto. The prize is awarded annually to the best article published in the American Quarterly during the previous year. Monica's article, "Recuperating Histories of Violence in the Americas: Vernacular History-Making on the U.S.-Mexico Border" (AQ 66.3, 2014), was selected for this year's honor.

Those of you attending the conference can celebrate Monica in person! The awards ceremony will take place October 9th, Friday, from 7pm - 8pm.

We hope also to see you at our day-long panel series on Friday, which includes Martinez and other prominent scholars presenting on the intersections of violence with history, gender & sexuality, race, war, and nationalism (among other important topics). The panels will be followed by an open meeting for anyone interested in learning more about, and/or getting involved with, the Histories of Violence Collective. We look forward to a rich discussion with our colleagues in American Studies and allied fields.
